Trust

Misguided as a lonesome sheep,
wandered off and has lost its way.
Watchful of the wolves' gnarly grip,
Trusting in the unseen today.

His Lead

Forgiving like a precious child
following wide-eyed as you lead
trusting every footstep's imprint
breathing in all the love I need.

Woven Sky

Wounded like a little bird
Never taught quite how to fly
Fallen from the woven nest
Hit the hard ground, not the sky.

It's Better if I Just Go

It’s better if I Just Go
(Key of C)

You do not choose whom you love
Your heart tells you so
(But sometimes I can feel it)
It’s better if I just go.

My heart sings when you are near,
But I can not let it show
(Because you do not feel the same)
It’s better if I just go.

I want you to touch me
Like all those times before
(You can not look me in the eyes)
It’s better if I just go.

My every happy, wandering thought
Traces its way back to you
(The many fond memories I hold)
It’s better if I just go.

We’d wander through the wilderness
And you’d sing me a song or two
(My voice was always a little off-key)
It’s better if I just go.

You’d make up funny names
To call me by and by
(I always went and played along)
It’s better if I just go.

I told you my many secrets
And I never told you lies
(Can’t you see it written in my eyes?)
It’s better if I just go.

Winter has turned to spring again
Another year has passed us by
(Another year of me loving you)
It’s better if I just go.

So, why does my heart carry on
With sweet remembrances of you
(Your kiss and warm embraces)
It’s better if I just go.

Someday I’ll find that someone,
One who reminds me of you
(I often wonder if it will happen)
It’s better if I just go.

I pray to God every single day
To somehow live again
(Because I can not forget you)
It’s better if I just go.

The sorrows I feel are deep within
The hidden hollows of my soul
(My heart that still reminds me)
It’s better if I just go.

God's Gift

(Written in Angel’s Tongue)

FCGC (capo, 2nd fret optional)

Some days are like a cold, dark blast
Uncovering days long gone past
We’ve come a long way on our paths
Realizing the goodness we’ve found in each other.

(chorus)
To hold your hand in mine
Oh, it is so divine
To have you close to me;
To sit and pass the time
Oh, it is so divine,
You are God’s gift to me.

Wouldn’t have it any other way
Took the low roads and went astray
For within my heart you have stayed
To finally embrace you in my arms, my lover.

(chorus)

Christ, Himself has shown us the light
Brightens the days and skies at night
Shown our hearts it must be right
We lay out and share our trials with one another.

Midwest Sunset, oil, 2009

Change, reflect, identify, change

Change always starts with confusion.
Begin listening to what God
has placed on your heart.
Stop what you are doing,
organize your thoughts
and reflect on the cues
that lead to each step,
to where you have come from.
The way will become more clear
if you begin with a pause,
identify your attitude
and become open
to the great possibilities
that will come
from being a receptive catalyst
for change.

Opportunities Unfold You

Opportunities are always present,
If only you take the time;
The path will unfold
And the journey
Will be set
Before you.

Today I've Taken the Road Locked Inside

I’ve left the past behind me now - today.
The step I’ve taken, for God knows the way,
Can’t turn back, push forward, I have no choice;
I’m listening intently to His voice.
Floating in space is what I feel like now.
I’ll seize the moment any way, but how?
The road signs are clearly marked on the road,
But to understand, have to break the code.
The door is not locked, it is opened wide;
I can not go through, only look inside.
My life will be new, not one soon to forget
And the tools are there, the task had been set;
He knows the way, I do now understand.
I trust in Him that He will hold my hand.

Life Never is Flat

Life just happens
Before you have a clue;
The sphere’s turning,
Never mind about you.
Grasp the season,
Take advantage of now;
Seize the moment
Any way you know how!

What’s behind you
Is nothing but the past;
Now’s the present,
You better make it last.
Time is fleeting,
There’s no doubt about that;
Don’t just assume
That the world has gone flat.

We Fill the Words

Written in response to Mary Mulvihill

For whom do we write
But ourselves;
(sympathy, empathy and anger
That fill the soul, heart and mind)
The page is filled,
Time passes,
Dust collects;
But will they ever be resurrected
Or who needs to hear the
Words at all but you?

Move a Wall to Speak

Written in reference to Turning to One Another by Margaret J. Wheatley

We can not move mountains
If we are afraid to face them;
We can not touch a person
If we keep a wall up around them.
We need to be able to experience
Life in all its ups and downs,
Difficulty and splendor, valleys and peaks,
In order to change the world
And be free to speak.

Prejudgment is Vicious

Written in reference to the song “Mr. Tanner” by Harry Chapin

Prejudgment is the sin toward creativity.

When something is in your heart, it’s more than natural to want to free it, to feel it pulsing inside your veins.

We are all out there looking for that one thing in life that makes us feel whole and worthy of this life that we’ve been given – to be able to use the talents that we possess to make your life.

When someone else tells you that you can’t do something or that you’re not good at something you love – then it’s gone.

A vicious web we weave with our opinions.

Writing

Writing:
Syncopated thoughts;
Scribbled, heart-felt, understanding,
Processing external, impacting internal.
