Midwest Sunset, oil, 2009

Change, reflect, identify, change

Change always starts with confusion.
Begin listening to what God
has placed on your heart.
Stop what you are doing,
organize your thoughts
and reflect on the cues
that lead to each step,
to where you have come from.
The way will become more clear
if you begin with a pause,
identify your attitude
and become open
to the great possibilities
that will come
from being a receptive catalyst
for change.

Opportunities Unfold You

Opportunities are always present,
If only you take the time;
The path will unfold
And the journey
Will be set
Before you.

Today I've Taken the Road Locked Inside

I’ve left the past behind me now - today.
The step I’ve taken, for God knows the way,
Can’t turn back, push forward, I have no choice;
I’m listening intently to His voice.
Floating in space is what I feel like now.
I’ll seize the moment any way, but how?
The road signs are clearly marked on the road,
But to understand, have to break the code.
The door is not locked, it is opened wide;
I can not go through, only look inside.
My life will be new, not one soon to forget
And the tools are there, the task had been set;
He knows the way, I do now understand.
I trust in Him that He will hold my hand.

Life Never is Flat

Life just happens
Before you have a clue;
The sphere’s turning,
Never mind about you.
Grasp the season,
Take advantage of now;
Seize the moment
Any way you know how!

What’s behind you
Is nothing but the past;
Now’s the present,
You better make it last.
Time is fleeting,
There’s no doubt about that;
Don’t just assume
That the world has gone flat.

We Fill the Words

Written in response to Mary Mulvihill

For whom do we write
But ourselves;
(sympathy, empathy and anger
That fill the soul, heart and mind)
The page is filled,
Time passes,
Dust collects;
But will they ever be resurrected
Or who needs to hear the
Words at all but you?

Move a Wall to Speak

Written in reference to Turning to One Another by Margaret J. Wheatley

We can not move mountains
If we are afraid to face them;
We can not touch a person
If we keep a wall up around them.
We need to be able to experience
Life in all its ups and downs,
Difficulty and splendor, valleys and peaks,
In order to change the world
And be free to speak.

Prejudgment is Vicious

Written in reference to the song “Mr. Tanner” by Harry Chapin

Prejudgment is the sin toward creativity.

When something is in your heart, it’s more than natural to want to free it, to feel it pulsing inside your veins.

We are all out there looking for that one thing in life that makes us feel whole and worthy of this life that we’ve been given – to be able to use the talents that we possess to make your life.

When someone else tells you that you can’t do something or that you’re not good at something you love – then it’s gone.

A vicious web we weave with our opinions.

Writing

Writing:
Syncopated thoughts;
Scribbled, heart-felt, understanding,
Processing external, impacting internal.
